The Herbarium collection of Henri Van Heurck (1838-1909) came into the possession of Meise Botanic Garden in 2006. This collection consists of about 300,000 specimens and dates from the late 18th, early 19th century.
In this project, we focus on part of the mosses collection (Bryophyta). The two main sub-collections in the Bryophyta are the collection of Joseph Hennen (1852 - 1927) and Raymond Naveau (1889-1932).
Specimens from Joseph (Joe) Hennen's worldwide collection were collected not only by him but by several collectors including Husnot (1840-1929) with his 'musci galliae'.
Raymond Naveau's collection, in turn, consists of Belgian material he collected himself. Other collectors in the Bryophyta collection are Vandenbroeck, who collected in the Kempen region, Gabriel Dismier (Gallia), J. Massart (Brazil) and E. Van den Kerckhoven (mainly European material).
