The exploration continues with the transcription of the labels of the collembola collection of the Institute of Natural Sciences. These are tiny invertebrates, the size of a full stop, live in soil, in a variety of habitats. In 1 m² of soil, there may be 10.000 of them. Collembola are important because of their abundance and therefore their ability to impact the functioning of an entire ecosystem. Also, they are simply fascinating because of their ability to jump.
What will happen with the data you transcribe ? It will be imported in the DaRWIN collection database system after control by the collection collaborator responsible for digitizing the mite collection at RBINS. Shortly after import into DaRWIN, the slides will also be available for free consultation on our Virtual Collections website.
