Angola, a vast country on the south-west coast of Africa, has a wide variety of landscapes, climates and ecoregions.
One notable plant is the Welwitschia, a primitive conifer found along the southern and central coasts. This living fossil only occurs in dry coastal areas in both Namibia and Angola. In addition, Angola is home to the Angolan Arammi, a biennial herb with finely divided leaves and inflorescences reminiscent of queenwort.
The Maiombe forest, part of Angola's humid and dense woodlands, contains some of the rarest forests in the world. Overall, Angola's flora shows remarkable diversity, ranging from coastal deserts to mountain forests and savannahs.
