Nigeria is a country with great ecological diversity, where the flora ranges from water-rich coastal areas to arid desert zones. In the south, the landscape is dominated by mangrove swamps and dense tropical rainforests with valuable hardwood species such as mahogany. Toward the north, these give way to vast savannas, where the vegetation ranges from oil palms and deciduous trees in the center to the iconic baobabs and acacia bushes in the drier Sahel region. This rich flora not only forms a crucial ecosystem but, with crops such as the oil palm and various medicinal plants, is also of great economic and cultural importance to the population.
