The plants of Guinea (02)

Guinea, located in West Africa, boasts an exceptionally diverse flora closely linked to the variation in its landscape, from the humid coastal areas to the mountainous highlands of Fouta Djallon. The country is home to vast rainforests in the southeast (Guinée Forestière), where rare tree species such as African mahogany and various lianas thrive, while the flatter northern regions are characterised by savannah vegetation with robust baobabs and acacia trees. Along the coastline, dense mangrove forests form a crucial ecosystem that protects the transition from land to sea. However, this rich biodiversity, which includes more than 3,000 plant species, is under pressure from mining and deforestation, making conservation of this unique botanical treasure trove a major challenge.
