The plants of Réunion (01)
This French overseas department in the Indian Ocean is a volcanic island boasting a spectacular, largely endemic flora. Due to the dramatic variations in altitude, the vegetation changes rapidly: from lush, humid rainforests filled with unique orchids and giant tree ferns to subalpine shrublands on the slopes of the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise. About one-third of the native plants here are found nowhere else on Earth.
