The plants of Chad
Chad is a land of extremes, divided into the hyper-arid Sahara in the north, the Sahelian belt in the center, and the wetter Sudanian savanna in the south. In the north, plant life is restricted to oases where date palms grow. In the central Sahel, tough grasses and thorny acacias dominate the landscape. Toward the south, around Lake Chad, the flora changes drastically into vast wetlands featuring papyrus, Nile grass, and the impressive African palmyra palm.
