For a few months in 1979-1980, the Japanese biologists Yuji Ankei (安渓遊地) and Takako Ankei (安渓貴子) explored the eastern part of the present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo. During this expedition, they collected several herbarium specimens which for a great part are housed in the African Herbarium of the Botanic Garden Meise. In this project, you will be able to explore their field notes, which complete the information present on the herbarium specimen labels.
After a short introduction clarifying the abbreviations used in the field notebook, the notes themselves mostly consist of a list of data for each individual specimen collected. Please transcribe these entries into the corresponding line of the table. A quotation mark standing alone means that the content of that cell is the same as the next cell above completely written out; please write out the information despite this shorthand (i.e. do not transcribe the quotation mark). In the case of maps, only transcribe handwritten information.
Further information about the academical background and research interests of Yuji Ankei (安渓遊地) and Takako Ankei (安渓貴子) is available on their personal site both in Japanese and English.
Keywords (Latin):
Res Publica Democratica Congensis, Hortus Botanicus Meise, Scriba.
