This beautiful selection, courtesy of Bruges City Archives, consists mainly of images from the Guillaume Michiels collection. Guillaume Michiels (1909-1997) was a painter, teacher at the Bruges art academy, folklorist and collector. The City Archives of Bruges purchased part of his collection in 1994. It contains thousands of photographs, maps, prints, lithographs ... mainly about Bruges. A large segment of this collection has already been described and is searchable via Beeldbank Brugge (erfgoedbrugge.be). The images presented here are from the same collection but are still waiting for a description. Which is why we need your help. They relate to different streets and squares in Bruges: the Burg, the Groenerei, the Van Eyckplein, Dijver ... The material is extremely diverse, so there’s something for everyone.
Tip: When describing, pay attention to the middle part of the image number, for example GM_05_001. The 05 in the example given is the number of the folder in which the originals are located. Images with the same folder number usually relate to the same place/street/square.
