In addition to the City Archives, Musea Brugge also conserves an extensive collection of works on paper from Guillaume Michiels (1909-1997). In this second selection, you will become acquainted with the colourful mannekensbladen or ‘cent prints’ that Michiels collected: cheap folk prints that were produced in high editions and sold for small sums of money (one cent). You will also find sketches and drawings by Michiels’ own hand, including many views of the streets of Bruges. Compare them with the drawings of Emile Rommelaere (1873-1961), a teacher of Michiels, who also liked to be inspired by Bruges. Finally, be surprised by the multifaceted collection belonging to the Bruges printer and lithographer Auguste Ancot (1846-1896). His collection comes to the fore once again, only this time, in addition to the prints and printed ephemera, we are also looking at the drawings he collected.
