The olive family (Oleaceae) consists of trees and shrubs, as well as lianas. The family is found worldwide, with a concentration in East Asia and has over 600 species in 24 genera.
The olive tree (Olea europaea) is economically important for its olives and olive oil. The genus ash (Fraxinus) produces hard, strong but elastic wood. Multiple genera, such as jasmine, lilac, bellflower, and privet, contain prized ornamental plants.
