The FOMU (Photo Museum of Antwerp) has collections numbering over 3,000,000 items. 92% of these consist of such large volumes of material that it is impossible for our staff to evaluate each one individually. With an eye to improving the visibility, findability and usefulness of the items in its collections, the FOMU continually seeks out innovative tools with which to address the difficulties of registration. Now, with DoeDat, we are asking you to help us register our collections.
As our first Iedereen Benoemd/t project we have selected the Louis Artus collection, which consists of images he created during the filming of classic children’s tv series. In the early 1960s Artus worked for the Universal Video production company, which filmed children’s series year after year for the broadcaster then known as BRT. Artus was always on hand as a cameraman, from Tijl Uilenspiegel in 1961 until Circus Rondau in 1976, and in between filming sessions he took photos on set. Some of these were published in book form by De Standaard, Others were back-stage photos that he presented to the crew as souvenirs after filming.
The FOMU has photos by Louis Artus dating up to 1968.
